Corrosion protection built for Gulf conditions
50 °C ambient. Ultraviolet that destroys an organic topcoat in a season. Chloride-laden coastal air, and sabkha ground that eats buried steel. The Gulf is where conventional coating maintenance schedules break down — and where cold-applied wrapping earns its place.
Four conditions, and what we specify against each
| Regional condition | What it does to a coating | What we specify |
|---|---|---|
| Extreme solar and UV load | Chalking, embrittlement and thermal ageing of the exposed layer, on a cycle far shorter than the design life | Aluminium foil outer wrap as the reflective sacrificial layer, so the primary petrolatum tape underneath is never UV-exposed and is not thermally aged |
| Ambient to 50 °C, hot surfaces | Softening, slump and run-down on vertical surfaces | Industrial grade to +55 °C, seawater grade to +65 °C, and the microcrystalline wax system where service temperature runs higher still. Drop melting point measured at 90 °C against a 55 °C requirement |
| Coastal chloride and salt aerosol | Pitting under intact-looking film; undercutting from any holiday | Petrolatum compounds that displace moisture from the steel and stay plastic. 1 000 hours neutral salt spray with no rust, to GB/T 10125 |
| Sabkha and saline soils | Aggressive attack on buried pipework and tank bottoms; CP current wasted through disbonded coating | Viscoelastic system, which cold-flows into the profile and does not shield cathodic protection, or PP fibre-reinforced tape where soil stress is the governing risk |
What should a Middle East corrosion protection enquiry include?
Tank farms, terminals and pipeline operators in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait usually need a system choice that can be checked against the site temperature, exposure and tender documents.
Tank farm or tank chime
Share the tank diameter, annular-plate and chime detail, foundation condition, operating status and any hot-work restriction. The proposal can then separate the flexible profiling layer, petrolatum wrap and exposed outer protection.
Pipeline, valve or flange
Include the line size, coating type, buried or above-ground exposure, backfill or chamber condition, operating temperature and cathodic-protection information. These details determine whether PE/PP, petrolatum or viscoelastic materials are appropriate.
Tender and vendor documents
Attach the specification clause, required standards, TDS/SDS list and inspection format. We will identify which existing reports support the clause and which items need project-specific confirmation.
Request a Gulf system proposal →A tank farm that never stops earning
In a Gulf terminal, the cost of corrosion maintenance is almost never the material. It is the shutdown, the permit, the blasting containment and the schedule.
Cold-applied wrapping removes all four from the critical path. There is no hot work, so no hot work permit. There is no curing schedule, so the detail is finished when the last layer goes on. Surface preparation is St2 hand or power tool in the applications stated on the data sheet — no blasting plant, no containment, no dust management in a live tank farm.
The tank stays in service while the chime is rebuilt. That is the whole argument, and it is why storage tank annular plate protection is our single largest application area.

Nine cold-applied tank edge projects in our records run from 5 000 m³ to 100 000 m³, including Sinopec refining and chemical sites and an international storage operator.
Salt spray, no rust
Neutral salt spray to GB/T 10125 on the petrolatum tape, with no rust recorded — the property that matters most in a chloride-loaded coastal atmosphere.
Where these systems go
Crude and product tank farms
Annular plate, chime edge and the shell-to-foundation transition, plus nozzles and bottom connections. Foil outer wrap for the exposed section.
Loading terminals and jetty lines
Splash and tidal zone steel on berth structures, loading arms and jetty pipework — seawater grade, applied to wet steel without a primer.
Gas processing and pipe racks
Utility lines, supports and bolted connections where local corrosion is repaired without taking the rack out of service.
Send the specification, we will answer it clause by clause
Gulf tenders are specification-driven, and a vague supplier costs you weeks. Send the clause and we will tell you which report addresses it, which do not, and what testing would close the gap.
