The layers that make the wrap work. A primer wets the prepared steel and inhibits corrosion at the interface; a mastic or paste fills bolt recesses, weld caps and abrupt steps so the tape makes continuous contact instead of bridging a void.
Not every system uses every component. Some viscoelastic configurations need no primer at all, and filling compound is used only where the geometry is irregular.
